Genie couldn't figure out what to make Abu until finally he turned him into an elephant. Prince Ali rode in on Abu when he entered Agrabah. Abu stayed an elephant until the end of the movie.

Jafar wanted to be all powerful so he wished that Genie would make him a sorcerer. Afterward, Jafar banished Aladdin into a snowy area. The magic carpet and Abu were banished with Aladdin. Once Aladdin rescued the magic carpet, they were able to fly back to Agrabah and rescue Genie and Jasmine. When Aladdin goaded Jafar into having Genie make Jafar a genie, Jafar became trapped inside his own lamp.

Jafar, disguised as an old man, tricked Aladdin into visiting the Cave of Wonders, so he could get the genie's lamp and hand it over. The plan nearly worked until Abu caused Jafar to drop the lamp. Aladdin became stuck in the cave where he released the genie. He was able to trick the genie into freeing the two of them, along with Abu and the magic carpet, from the cave. Genie allowed this request without it counting as one of Aladdin's three wishes but told him that there would be no more freebies.

Jafar wanted to marry Jasmine, so he could rule Agrabah; however, Jasmine didn't want to marry Jafar. Therefore, since Jafar was the genie's new master, he decided to make a wish that would cause Jasmine to fall in love with him. Genie pointed out that this was against the rules, but Jafar was insistent that Genie grant his wish.
What happened next was Jasmine pretended to fall in love with Jafar as a way to distract him so that Aladdin could get the genie's lamp.
